Description
Enrique Metinides photographed his first dead body before he was twelve and carries on for the rest of his career. From the 1940s to 1990s he worked for the notorious Mexican tabloid press the “Nota Roja” and for years slept with a radio tuned to emergency stations so he could rush to the scene of the latest accident, crime or disaster.
Unlike many news photographers Metindes work has the feel of scenes from an unmade movie, his well composed photos of crashes, suicides and murders shot with a wide angle lens and fill in daylight flash.
His pictures when first shown at The Photographers’ Gallery in 2003 and customers are still asking us for the long out of print catalogue. Kominek Gallery Berlin has published Series which presents Metindes work as if cinematography, examining the themes of his deeply ambiguous work. The book is a large paperback with all the photographs presented in landscape format.
