Aaron Schuman: FOLK
Thu 21 Jul, 18.00
Please join us for an evening with Aaron Schuman who presents his first monograph FOLK, published by NB.
In FOLK Aaron Schuman explores the Ethnographic Museum in Krakow — its collections and exhibits, as well as its own distinct customs and culture — via his own personal history. In one sense, the book focuses specifically on the regional and cultural heritage of Schuman’s forefathers, but equally considers the ways in which this heritage has been collected, preserved, archived, documented and represented via the field of ethnography, and within the Ethnographic Museum in Krakow itself.
Aaron Schuman is an American artist, writer, editor and curator based in the United Kingdom. His photographic work is exhibited and published internationally, and is held in a number of public and private collections. Both his written and photographic work has been featured in numerous books, journals and magazines including Aperture, FOAM, Frieze, and Hotshoe. Schuman is also a Senior Lecturer at both the University of Brighton and the Arts University Bournemouth, and is the founder and editor of SeeSaw Magazine.
NB is a new independent photobook publisher based in London.
Aaron signs books in the Bookshop from 18.00, and is in conversation with writer, curator and photographer David Campany from 19.00 in the cafe.
