Jason Evans and Ivan Vartanian, curators of the Contemporary Japanese Photobook exhibition, discuss the show.
Jason Evans (born Holyhead, 1968) is a photographer.
Ivan Vartanian (born New York 1972) is a writer, publisher, producer, and editor based in Tokyo for the past 15 years. His previous book-length publications include Japanese Photobooks of the 1960s & 70s (Aperture, 2009), Setting Sun: Writings by Japanese Photographers (Aperture, 2005), SeeSaw: Japanese Art Then + Now (Chronicle, 2011), and ACCIDENT: A Photobook by Daido Moriyama (Goliga, 2011). Since 2011, as an on-going series, Ivan has produced several performance-based events with Japanese photographers, including Daido Moriyama, Takashi Homma, Rinko Kawauchi, Osamu Kanemura, Naoki Ishikawa, and Hitoshi Fugo, among others.
