Paul Hart

Paul Hart, Vespertine, 2007

Paul Hart (born UK 1961) is a British photographer who explores our relationship with the landscape, in both a humanistic and socio-historical sense. Hart’s series concentrate on a specific region’s monoculture, which he photographs intensively over a number of years. He works solely with the black and white analogue process, creating hand crafted silver gelatin prints in a traditional darkroom. His TRUNCATED series hones in on nature’s ability to provide shelter and protection in the almost claustrophobic confines of the forest, whilst FARMED attends to vast expanses of linear, open landscapes and their naked vulnerability.

Hart graduated with a BA (Hons) in Photography from Nottingham Trent University in 1988. His work has been exhibited at The Royal Academy of Art (London), the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew (London) and at prestigious art fairs such as Photo London, Paris Photo and The AIPAD Photography Show, New York. Hart has received numerous awards including the First Prize Monograph and First Prize Fine Art Series at the Prix de la Photographie  PX3 (Paris, 2016), and has published two critically acclaimed monographs: TRUNCATED (Dewi Lewis Publishing, 2008) and FARMED (Dewi Lewis publishing, 2016), both of which are held in the National Art Library collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
