INFO

Join us for an evening with photographer Ron Jude, who presents his new photobook Nausea, published by MACK.

17.00 Book Signing in the Bookshop.

18.30 Talk in the Eranda Studio.

Nausea—taken from the title of Sartre’s 1938 existential novel—is a body of photographs that registers the interiors of public schools in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Atlanta, Georgia from 1990-92. Departing from mere documentation, however, Ron Jude lures us into peering through windows, doorways and crevices of walls into empty classrooms and corridors, as we become increasingly conscious of the perils of our own gaze.

The publication of Nausea marks the 25th anniversary of the exhibition Jude had at The Photographers' Gallery. The book contains a new edit of the work, including many previously unpublished images.

Ron Jude will be signing copies of Nausea in the Bookshop from 17.00, followed by a  conversation with David Chandler in the Eranda Studio from 18.30.

Ron Jude  lives and works in Eugene, Oregon. His photographs have been exhibited at galleries including The Photographers’ Gallery, London; Daugeu Cultural Center, South Korea; Proekt_Fabrika, Moscow; and Roth/Horowitz Gallery, New York. He is the co-founder of A-Jump Books and the author of Alpine Star, Postcards, Other Nature and Emmett. His other books include Lago (2015, MACK) and Lick Creek Line (2012, MACK). Jude has lectured extensively about his work, most recently at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Rochester Institute of Technology. He is represented by Gallery Luisotti in Santa Monica, Robert Morat Galerie in Hamburg, and Galeria Alfacinha in Lisbon. He currently teaches photography at University of Oregon.

David Chandler is a writer, editor and curator in the fields of contemporary photography, photographic history and the visual arts and is currently  Professor of Photography at the School of Art, Design and Architecture, Plymouth University. He was curator at The Photographers' Gallery from 1988 to 1995 where he took care of Ron Jude's inaugural exhibition of Nausea.
