Collecting Photography Intensive

In the lead up to Paris Photo 2018, the world’s largest international gathering of photography galleries, exhibitions and photobook publishers, TPG is running its annual expert guide to collecting photography. 

This two-session ‘intensive’ is aimed at all levels of collectors, including those just starting out, and offers top tips and guidance to help you navigate the market place with confidence and know-how.

Gemma Barnett, Director of Print Sales Gallery at The Photographers’ Gallery, shares over 15 years of experience of working in photography sales and advising collectors. She will offer best practice, advice on what to look for, how to discern different print types and editions, what questions to ask when purchasing a work as well as what to avoid. This session will be followed by a presentation from Jeffrey Boloten from Sotheby’s Institute of Art and ArtInsight who will present the latest analysis of the current photography market. Both speakers will answer general and individual questions from attendees throughout the evening.  Welcome drinks and refreshments provided.

Brandei Estes, Head of Photographs at Sotheby’s, will demystify the secondary market for photography, offering helpful tips about buying and selling photographs at auction. This illuminating talk will be followed by a special viewing of the Midas Touch – a forthcoming sale that includes a complete set of Sebastiao Salgado’s Gold Miners series.
