Screen Walk with Laura Paloma

Join Laura Paloma on a live streamed performance

For the duration of this Screen Walk, Laura Paloma will pretend to be a human and share with you her many Facebook lives as ant, fish, screaming opossum, piece of bread, soccer mom, middle-aged dad. Her desktop performance will explore the aesthetics and codes of Facebook role-playing groups by taking a closer look at how GIFs, memes, emojis, stock images are used to create social media identities and communities based on pretend…or whatever the humans say…Blub! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Screen Walks is a new series of live-streamed artist/researcher-led explorations of online spaces and artistic strategies designed to illuminate a thriving – often overlooked – digital cultural scene. A new online collaboration between The Photographers’ Gallery, UK and Fotomuseum Winterthur, Switzerland.

Laura Paloma is an artist and writer based in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. She has written multilingual short stories about love, loss and the livestream. She thinks of her texts as fan fictions or fever dreams. Her artistic practice questions the relationship between image, object, text, narrative, language, play. Her life goal is to become a text generator.
