The Death Penalty Project Annual Lecture: "Always Against the Death Penalty, Except in the Case of My Father."
In the context of the exhibition Roman Vishniac Rediscovered, Philippe Sands shares his reflections on Vishniac's photograph 'Sara' (above), Hans Frank, the German war criminal and personal lawyer to Adolf Hitler, Nuremberg and the death penalty. In 2018 he was appointed President of English PEN.
Philippe Sands is Professor of Law at University College London and a barrister at Matrix Chambers. His book East West Street: On the Origins of Genocide and Crimes against Humanity (2016) has been awarded numerous prizes, including the 2016 Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction and is presenter of the BBC Radio 4’s The Ratline.
