Workshop: Street Portraiture with Niall McDiarmid
11.00 - 17.00
This one-day practical workshop with photographer Niall McDiarmid aims to encourage participants to find their own style in the field of street portraiture.
Following an introduction to his own work, a discussion of the history of street portraiture and an exploration of the work of others in the field, participants will take to the streets of Soho to make their own work. Advice is given on identifying potential spots for portraits, building relationships with people on the street, taking their images and equipment used, as well as feedback in a review session at the end of the day.
Participants are encouraged to use their own camera although a small number are available to borrow. No prior experience is necessary.
Niall McDiarmid is a Scottish photographer based in London. His work is primarily about documenting the people and landscape of Britain. His books include Crossing Paths (2013), Via Vauxhall (2015) and Town To Town (2018). Niall's portraits are held by the Museum of London, the National Portrait Gallery and the Sir Elton John Photographic Collection.
