Youth Workshop: Photographic Collage – Old & New
Suitable for ages 11-15
Looking at Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize 2018 nominee Batia Suter’s work as inspiration, this workshop led by Sharp Shots will explore how changing the context of an image can create a new meaning.
Using found images from newspapers, magazines, photography books and the internet, participants will search for compositional, textural and gradient similarities. We will discuss why their chosen images are interesting and will then shoot both in the studio and in the streets surrounding the gallery, searching for visual similarities and pairings in their own photographs.
In this workshop, participants will learn how to get the most from their camera, including use of the exposure triangle and how camera mechanics such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO can enrich their images. At the end of the day there will be a small exhibition of students’ “old and new” collages, and an opportunity to experiment with presentation methods inspired by Batia Suter’s work.

[Please note: participants will need to bring a camera to use in this session. A limited number of DSLR cameras will be available to hire for £10. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org after booking if you wish to hire a camera]
