This Teachers’ Session introduces the work of twelve photographers – based or born in Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sudan, Uganda and Zimbabwe – who were included in the exhibition More Than a Number at Ffotogallery, Cardiff in October - December 2021.
Cynthia MaiWa Sitei will introduce the exhibition, followed by introductory talks from artists Salih Basheer and, Amina Kadous, Jacques Nkinzingabo and Sarah Waiswa and an open discussion.
Diversifying the Curriculum is an ongoing series of teachers sessions that aims to support Art and Photography teachers in diversifying the curriculum through signposting the work of photographers and widening the conversation.

Biographies
Cynthia MaiWa Sitei is Creative Producer at Ffotogallery is originally from Kenya and moved to England in 2010 and then to Wales in 2017, where she pursued a Masters in Documentary Photography at the University of South Wales, graduating in 2019.
Salih Basheer is a Sudanese documentary photographer. During his studies of Geography at Cairo University, Egypt, he started as a self-taught photographer and subsequently studied Photojournalism in Denmark. Since 2018, he has been awarded several grants and prizes for his ongoing projects, and his photo stories have been exhibited in Ethiopia, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and the United Arab Emirates.
Amina Kadous is a visual arist based in Cairo, Egypt. She received her Bachelor in Fine Arts from Tufts University and The School of the Museum of Fine arts in Boston. Her work is a linkage between the past and present through the layers of time as they fold and unfold.
Jacques Nkinzingabo is a DJ, Music Producer and self-taught photographer born and based in Kigali. He founded Kwanda Art Foundation with the aim to build the photography community in Rwanda by establishing, educating, improving their knowledge and to promote the art Industry and community in Rwanda and in national and international contexts.
Sarah Waiswa is Ugandan-born, Kenya-based documentary and portrait photographer with an interest in exploring the New African Identity on the continent. With degrees in sociology and psychology, Sarah’s work explores social issues in Africa in a contemporary and non-traditional way.
