In this public talk moderated by Clare Grafik (Head of Exhibitions, The Photographers' Gallery), photographers Alex Schneideman and Alys Tomlinson discuss their contribution to the collaborative project, Pictures from the Garden. Pictures from the Garden is an exhibition and publication featuring photographic essays that respond to Paddy Summerfield's seminal book, Mother and Father (2014), on his relationship with his parents in their final years.

Biographies
Alex Schneideman is a photographer, printer, writer and gallerist living in London. He gained a Masters in Documentary and Photojournalism from LCC. His previous publications include Want More, 2015, Art Books, Art London, ACC 2019, Want More (engraved edition) with Gaylord Shanilec, Golborne Editions 2020 and Pictures from the Garden, Dewi Lewis 2023. He contributes essays to various publications and journals and runs Flow Photographic studio where he makes fine art prints for photographers, galleries and institutions. In 2019 Alex established Flow Photographic Gallery, a space to show documentary photography made in the UK in central London. His work is held in public and private collections internationally. He is currently Artistic Director at Photo Oxford 2023 Festival.
Alys Tomlinson was born in Brighton and studied photography at Central Saint Martins and Anthropology at SOAS, University of London. Her recent projects Ex-Voto, Lost Summer and Gli Isolani (The Islanders) have been exhibited internationally and published as books. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize (1st prize, 2020), Winner of Prix du Public at the Discovery Award, Rencontres d’Arles 2019 and Sony World Photographer of the Year 2018.
