Course: Genres of Photography with David Bate
Tuesdays 10 April – 29 May, 18.30 - 20.00 (session 6 takes place on Monday 14 May)
Photographer and writer David Bate leads an eight-week course exploring the different genres of photography. Alongside weekly talks, participants are encouraged to bring their own photographs to discuss in the sessions.
The course takes inspiration from his book Photography: The Key Concepts, a comprehensive study that considers the place of photography in society, within photographic practice, visual culture, art, media and cultural studies.
David Bate is known internationally for his work on photography, visual arts history, theory and culture. He is Professor of Photography, supervising PhD work and teaching on the MA Photography Arts programme, University of Westminster. He is also an editor of the international photography theory journal Photographies started in 2008.
