Develop, Extended Realities: Draw Your Moves in XR

12:30pm, Sat 23 Nov 2024

18-24 year olds can join this session to combine drawing, dancing and XR technologies in this in-person workshop

This event is part of our Past Programme

This workshop explores connections between dance and drawing through the creative use of technology using Augmented (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR).

Participants will be prompted to translate drawing into movement, both individually and as a group. The session will incorporate movement improvisation, line drawing on paper, mixed reality drawing using mobile devices (AR) and drawing in VR using TiltBrush software.

The workshop aims to spark participants’ imagination and inspire interdisciplinary thinking by showing how drawing can be translated into movement and vice versa.

By taking part, you will have created an XR drawing using your body, and understand how this can be integrated into different softwares.

No previous experience in drawing, dance or using AR / VR technology necessary.

Kristina's Biography

Kristina Pulejkova is a visual artist based in London. Her interdisciplinary practice is informedby science and technology. Kristina’s work explores how the use of technology might lead to greater forms of sustainability in human-nature relationships. Working across moving image, sound and installation, she aims to build subjective narratives based on scientific data and principles. In her work, she tends to imagine voices from creatures, objects, and even atoms to inhabit non-human perspectives. Through the use of immersive technology, her works often deal with environmental issues, telling personal stories that place audiences at the centre of the scene, allowing for a protagonist’s perspective and a different way of seeing.

Georgia's Biography

Choreographer and stage director, Georgia Tegou’s work approaches 'Dance-as-design', intertwining choreography with design to create immersive visual environments. Drawing inspiration from architecture, sculpture, fashion, and visual arts, her work explores the symbiotic relationship between dance and spatial arts, seeking to encapsulate the nuances of the human condition. The performances and installations are created through collaborative processes resulting in experiences that blend contemporary dance, visual physical theatre and performance art. Showcased at venues such as Sadler’s Wells, the Venice Biennale of Architecture, Greek National Opera, the work has been described as ‘shifting and challenging dance and its intersectionality to broaden access to wider communities’ (Dance Umbrella). She is a Higher Education Academy Fellow, she was recognized with an ‘Excellence in Teaching Award’ by the University of Roehampton and she guest lectures globally.

This event is part of our Develop programme. The programme is a new initiative that supports young people (aged 18-24) to work towards a commissioning opportunity with The Photographers’ Gallery.
