Teachers' Session: Crafting Resistance - a student-led workshop

4:00pm, Thu 30 Apr 2026

Gain insight from this creative session foregrounding student agency

Take part in creative activities exploring protest and resistance through craft. This collaborative model foregrounds student agency and dialogue, alongside a pop-up display of work developed by students. The session is developed through the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School Crafting Resistance After School Club.

Following the student-led activities, educators are invited to reflect on how similar approaches might be adapted within their own contexts, including shifting classroom dynamics and the role that publicly presenting student work can play in building confidence and identity.

This session takes place at Autograph as part of their Visible Practice Residency (VPR) in collaboration with The Photographers' Gallery. VPR is supported by Freelands Foundation.

Please note: This session is part of our teachers’ programme and specifically aimed at secondary school teachers.

About the Crafting Resistance After School Club

The Crafting Resistance After School Club is based at Elizabeth Garrett Anderson school in north London. The themes of the club have grown directly from their teacher Aasha John’s own making process and through her Visible Practice Residency commissioned by Autograph. Aasha has taken her enquiry into the classroom, testing approaches that centre representation and critical conversation through craft.

Since November, students have worked with weaving, clay, cyanotype, painting, photography and intergenerational craft traditions, shaping the programme through shared experience and collective making
