An algorithmic selection of fictionalised videos for Soho Photography Quarter

For An Imaginary Page is a series of videos that encourage critical engagement with online creative content by using fiction as a primary tool. Combining existing TikTok posts with original texts and sound to produce fictional narrative works, Nina Davies asks "if algorithms were characters in our lives, what would they say to us?"

Responding to this question, Davies considers each piece of online content in the order the algorithms place it in her feed as if each video is a sentence within a story. This online content is then described or incorporated into a fictional narrative. In doing so, a new significance is attributed to these collections of seemingly everyday posts.

The collected videos in this selection are either made by the artist, or in collaboration with dancers, writers and magicians.

Nina Davies (b. 1991) is a Canadian-British artist who considers the present moment through observing dance in popular culture. She questions how it is disseminated, circulated, made, and consumed.
