Saïdou Dicko, Alma Haser and Julie Cockburn - TPG at Booth D49

This booth brings together Saïdou Dicko, Alma Haser and Julie Cockburn; each transform traditional portraiture using mixed-media interventions. Treating the photograph as a material to be folded, embroidered, painted and collaged, they rework the image to explore layered identities.

Dicko’s silhouetted figures are inspired by his Fulani culture and the studio portraits of his childhood. The ‘shadow’ is a universal protagonist in his work – erasing social and cultural differences whilst reclaiming presence in postcolonial contexts.

Haser’s multidimensional works reflect fractured, performed or inherited identity. Her latest series uses language as both concept and visual form, turning it into a metaphor for selfhood.

Cockburn’s embroidered photographs question how identity is shaped over time, unravelling memory and authorship.

Together these works reimagine the portrait as a site of storytelling and transformation.
