Publication Launch, Talk & Live Portrait Making, Ellen Kydd: London Dyke Deck

6:30pm, Thu 10 Sep 2026

Ellen Kydd will present their new publication London Dyke Deck in the Cafe Bar and Bookshop. El will be joined in conversation by Gemma Rolls-Bentley, signing copies of the publication, and will be inviting folk to make Autofoto portraits on the night.

The London Dyke Deck is a performative publication featuring 54 photographic portraits of the city’s queer community. Following the path of the iconic Catherine Opie, whose original card deck documented the San Francisco scene in 1995, El has brought together today’s dykes of various ages, genders, races & social backgrounds. Cathy and El both feature as the Jokers in the deck, whilst the card suits are split into four indicators of identity: femme, butch, trans & non-binary.

A Game of Flats by Eleanor Cox and a Terms & Conditionings are both published as printed texts alongside the card deck, exploring queer language, social structures and the significance of card games in evoking revolution.
