Donna Gottschalk’s work is an intimate documentation of queer lives and communities from the late 1960s, portraying the everyday experiences during early LGBT+ rights movements, when gay relationships were still illegal in the US.
Together with Hélène Giannecchini, whose focus on queer memoirs and minority archives positions the photographer’s images in the present, they will reflect on the intimacies of domestic spaces, forms of care, and solidarity and resistance.
Moderated by José Neves from The Photographers’ Gallery, this conversation offers a rare opportunity to hear directly from the American photographer, and to situate her practice within broader cultural and historical contexts.
