Hear about the legacy of the renowned photographer in this new talk

This event is part of our Past Programme

Coinciding with the 75th anniversary of Farleys House, this talk looks at the extraordinary legacy of Lee Miller and the ongoing significance of the renowned photographer’s former home.

Now a museum and archive dedicated to the life of Miller and Roland Penrose, Farleys House was a vibrant hub of creativity, attracting celebrated figures of the day such as Picasso, Eileen Agar and Dorothea Tanning, among many others. How did the sense of ‘home’ influence the artistic community that gathered there?

Featuring Ami Bouhassane (Director, Farleys House) and curator Zelda Cheatle, and moderated by Hannah Watson (Director, TJ Boulting).

In collaboration with Farleys House & Gallery and the Lee Miller Archives

Details on how to access the event will be confirmed upon registration. Please check your junk folders if you haven't received an email from TPG staff confirming your place.

Ami Bouhassane is co-director of Farleys House & Gallery Ltd, the organisation that manages the Lee Miller Archives and Farleys House, home of her grandparents Lee Miller and Roland Penrose. Author, curator, podcast presenter and lecturer on both Miller and Penrose, Bouhassane has worked extensively with their material for over 25 years. Her first book Lee Miller: A Life with Food, Friends and Recipes (2017) won three awards, including the IACP (International Association of Culinary Professionals) Jane Grigson award for scholarship. She is currently recording her fourth podcast series ‘Farleys 75, I remember…’ based on recollections of friends of Miller and Penrose that stayed at Farleys.

Zelda Cheatle is a well-known curator and editor of photography. After some years taking photographs, she began a gallery career at The Photographers' Gallery London from 1982 to 1988, working with internationally renowned photographers and emerging British and European artists using photography.

Hannah Watson is the Director of publishing house Trolley Books and the gallery TJ Boulting. TJ Boulting’s programme supports and represents emerging and mid-career contemporary artists including photographers Poulomi Basu, Juno Calypso, Maisie Cousins and Haley Morris-Cafiero.

In November 2023 the gallery presented a solo exhibition of Lee Miller in association with the Lee Miller Archives You Will Not Lunch In Charlotte Street Today, which focussed on Lee's works taken in London and in particular Fitzrovia, her portraits of women and of other artists.

Hannah is also chair of The Photographers’ Gallery Associate Patrons and a board member for the Artists’ Collecting Society. Previously she was chair of The Fitzrovia Chapel and curated exhibitions of Leigh Bowery, Gideon Mendel, Caroline Walker and Lee Miller, which focussed on Lee's images of US Nurses in the UK and France during WWII.
