Watch GauGAN Bot in a recorded live streamed automated performance

This event is part of our Past Programme

For the last event of the season, GauGAN Bot automatically created images and music on a live streamed performance. GauGAN Bot is a simple programme that autonomously interacts with two tools to create synthetic music and images using artificial intelligence.

The first, GauGAN2, is a research project from the company NVIDIA, which produces images using segmentation maps. The later, AIVA, is a platform that composes automatically generated music based on a series of preset algorithms. By replacing a human agent with a bot, the project closes the circle of automation by creating an autonomous audiovisual ecosystem. Paradoxically, despite only using computer processes, the images constantly attempt (but never really successfully manage to resemble human visual culture, replicating the aesthetics and motifs of traditional photography.

Screen Walks is a series of live-streamed artist/researcher-led explorations of online spaces and artistic strategies designed to illuminate a thriving – often overlooked – digital cultural scene. An online collaboration between The Photographers’ Gallery, UK and Fotomuseum Winterthur, Switzerland.
