Karen McQuaid (Senior Curator, The Photographers' Gallery) takes us deeper into The Picture Library, which takes over 200 photographs from The Guardian Foundation’s archive to explore liberal narratives from the 20th century. In this new online talk, she will discuss the subjectivity of presenting themes like feminism, post-colonialism, immigration, class and climate change in the press and give insight into how these same themes are exhibited at the Gallery.
TPG members who register for this event will enjoy an exclusive 15 minute preview with McQuaid, where they will have the opportunity to gain further insights into the curation of The Picture Library ahead of the main talk at 18.30.

Biography
Karen McQuaid is Senior Curator at The Photographers’ Gallery. She has curated many exhibitions including Jim Goldberg, Open See (2009); Fiona Tan, Vox Populi, London (2012); Andy Warhol, Photographs: 1976 – 1987(2014); and Rosângela Rennó, Río-Montevideo (2016). She recently co-curated Shot in Soho (2019) with Julian Rodriguez, and also facilitates TPG New Talent, a programme and exhibition for UK-based emerging practitioners. Other projects include the current The Picture Library and a new commission by Helen Cammock later this year.
