This specially curated setlist of records from the 1960s and 70s introduces the extraordinary popular music of Upper Volta, the country we now know as Burkina Faso. Discover great names from the scene: Amadou Balaké, Pierre Sandwidi, Abdoulaye Cissé and Dafra Star, alongside musicians whose records have only recently begun to receive the international attention they deserve.

Youssra Manlaykhaf, Digital Manager at The Photographers’ Gallery, joined Voices Radio to host a special collaboration radio set exploring Sory’s archive, the cultural world captured within his images and the stories behind some of the region's most prolific musicians whose records brought his studio sessions to life.

This selection of records was picked by archivist, Florent Mazzoleni, to reflect on the music scene he encountered on visits to Sanlé Sory's studio in Bobo-Dioulasso.
