From salted silver and collodion prints to daguerreotype and photogravure, discover the methods and characteristics of early photographic processes in this new course. Over two sessions, curator and photography specialist Mary Pelletier will lead group discussions and visits to An Alternative History of Photography as you learn more about the variety of early processes and prints and how some are still used today.
Format
Both sessions will include presentations, group discussion and a visit to An Alternative History of Photography. There will be opportunities for questions and comments throughout. Light refreshments will be available.
Who is this for?
This course is suitable for photographers, artists and others interested in photography and building their knowledge in early photographic processes. This would also be suitable to those who are interested in collecting photography and would like to develop more understanding into different types of prints.
Biography
Mary Pelletier is Print Sales Specialist at The Photographers' Gallery. Previously based in Doha, Qatar, she worked as a Senior Photography Specialist at Qatar Museums with a particular focus on historical and contemporary photography of the Middle East. She received her MA from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in 2010, and has since managed commercial photography programmes, international art fair stands, and spent two years as an archival researcher and arts writer in Jerusalem. She is also a contributing editor at The Classic, a magazine dedicated to vintage photography.
