This event is part of the Develop youth programme which is open to 14 to 24 year olds. Please only sign up if you are within the age bracket.
Join this talk to learn the basics of Augmented Reality (AR) – how it works, what it can do and how you could begin to include it in your own creative practice – and find out about our forthcoming AR open call.
AR is a technology that uses digital content to extend a view of our physical world when experienced through the screen of your mobile phone or tablet. Facial filters, animated landscapes and interactive virtual elements are just some examples of how this digital technology is merging with the user’s real-world environment. Think Pokémon GO.
AR and digital art curator Zaiba Jabbar will introduce the basics of AR before sharing examples of her favourite filters as well as some of the AR projects she has worked on. She will introduce contributions by artists Keiken, Hyphen-Labs and Josèfa Ntjam, who will share their own digital projects so you can begin to think about the different ways AR can be applied.
At the end of the session, we will be announcing an exciting open call which will result in 6 young people being chosen (and paid!) to make artwork for The Photographers’ Gallery. Open to 18 - 24 year olds, the programme is a unique opportunity to learn about AR technology and what it can offer as an emerging artistic medium/discipline from experts in the field.
