Explore the history and techniques of self-portraiture with photographer Ejatu Shaw.

This 3-hour workshop covers examples from a range of photographers and artists to look at the significance of self-portraiture in representation and self-expression. Participants will then work as a team on set to try out different self-portraiture techniques, using analogue and digital photography.

Biography

Ejatu Shaw is a London-based photographer and artist (MA Photography Arts, Westminster University). She explores the intricacies of identity in her work. she photographs those around her and uses self-portraiture to perform the various strands of her identity that she struggles to align with. Posing in front of the camera under the scrutiny of her own gaze is her way of being introspective and working through any anxieties she has regarding her idea of self.
