Daido Moriyama: A Retrospective

6 October 2023 – 11 February 2024

Daido Moriyama (b. 1938) is one of the greatest living Japanese photographers and a pop icon. This major retrospective of over 200 works and over 40 publications crosses different moments of his vast and productive career: from the interest in the American occupation and experimental theatre of the 1960s to the radical works of the 1970s, from the self-reflexive period in the 1980s and 1990s, through to the tireless documentation of cities and the reinvention of his own archive. Inspired by artists such as Andy Warhol, William Klein and Jack Kerouac, Moriyama revolutionised the way we look at the world with his dense, grainy images.

Curated by Thyago Nogueira, in collaboration with the Instituto Moreira Salles, São Paulo.
