This seminar explores the evolution of Southall as an important site of cross-cultural exchange in post-war Britain. Focusing on Dennis Morris’ Southall – A Home from Home, the session offers a guided analysis of selected photographs to consider how migration has shaped the area’s social and cultural landscape. Through open discussion, we’ll reflect on the formation of solidarities across communities, and how Morris’ images capture the textures of belonging, resistance and everyday life.
This session is part of a series of events dedicated to in-depth exploration of Dennis Morris’ photobooks: Growing Up Black, Southall - A Home from Home and This Happy Breed, as well as Music + Life. Each session offers contextual information and critical analysis of Morris’s photographic storytelling, touching on themes such as race, migration, identity and British cultural history.
