The Concerned Photographer was the first exhibition held at The Photographers' Gallery. While the first exhibition was scheduled to be Aspects of the Cultural Revolution, a touring exhibition entitled the Concerned Photographer opportunistically offered itself first. It had evolved from the International Fund for Concerned Photography in New York in 1966 which aimed to conserve and promote photography as a socially important art form, and had previously been shown in New York, Japan and Switzerland. The focus is on photography as the optimum medium for recording the human condition.
