Connection Established: Digital Folklore and Web Craft

Fri 06 Mar 2026 - Sun 07 Jun 2026

Connection Established celebrates the new generation of artists who are reclaiming the internet through DIY web craft and zine-making.

The world of web craft is a space where the imperfect and the handmade thrive. Artists on the internet are returning to craft and zine-making, in response to AI and an increased awareness of the environmental impacts and omnipresent observation of everything we do,

Using experimental publishing and DIY techniques, with web tools like Shrimpzine and Downpour, artists are building communities which offer alternative spaces to exchange and create a more hand-crafted and poetic web.

From LAN parties, the Internet Phone Book and wikis, to zine swaps and libraries, Connection Established maps a history of online communities, inviting you to get involved and explore the re-emergence of the digital handmade.

Web craft: an interview with Daniel Murray

Building on Valentina Tanni’s reflections on digital aesthetics and nostalgia, this conversation brings together Kendal Beynon and Daniel Murray (Melonking), a key figure in the revival of DIY web craft. As the creator of MelonLand, a thriving hub for sharing and exploring the handmade web, Murray offers insights into community-building amid an internet shaped by algorithmic feeds and AI content. The discussion considers how web craft reclaims the web as artistic and human-centred.
