Develop at Home Exhibition

Develop at Home and The Signal were two outdoor exhibitions featuring work produced by 20 young people during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Covid-19 have been challenging to navigate for many. During this time, The Photographers’ Gallery’s flagship youth careers programme, Develop, went online to work with and support 14 to 24-year-olds’ creativity and connectedness. The Develop at Home online programme includes monthly check-ins, talks and workshops, portfolio reviews and commissioned writing.

The Develop at Home exhibition, shown on the gallery windows, featured work by ten artists taking part in the online programme. From self-portraiture to digital collage, documentary to fine art, it touches on themes of community, freedom and place. Showcasing a broad range of practices, the exhibition celebrates the creativity of a group of young people within the confines of home.

Featured artists in Develop at Home: Tami Aftab, Guy Gooch, Saffron Lily, Malaika Obonyo, Amina Onitilo, Gregor Petrikovič, Flora Scott, Asha Sitarz, Phoebe Somerfield, Harrison Tibbs

The Signal exhibition took place in an empty shop window at the foot of Ramillies Street’s stairs, close to The Photographers’ Gallery. Featured work was produced during an online mobile phone collage workshop led by artist Ibrahim Azab

These digital landscapes were shaped through distorting, cutting, glitching, overlapping and enlarging visual and adding text-based elements. For The Signal, Azab curated the artists’ work to create a multi-layered installation, an extension of his own artistic output.

Featured artists in The Signal: Maroa-Isabell Al-Sahlani, Georgiana Ashworth, Isabella Bon, Amy Bryne, Rebecca Cromwell, Jade Danaswamy Santiz, Martin Eito, Jackson Mount, Asha Sitarz, Malini Vaja, Annabel Wilkinson
