Programme Co-ordinator & Mentor (Freelance)

We are looking for a freelance Develop: Teen Tours Programme Co-ordinator & Mentor at The Photographers’ Gallery, supporting young people in engaging with photography through public tours and mentorship.

Role Overview

• Lead recruitment, support, and evaluation of 14-19-year-olds delivering public tours.
• Research exhibitions and prepare participants for their presentations.
• Conduct mentoring sessions, provide feedback, and assist on tour days.
• Collect feedback, archive materials, and write reports on participant progress.
• Collaborate with gallery staff, including curators and youth programmes team.

Key Responsibilities

• Recruit diverse young participants from schools/youth centres.
• Support their research, presentation skills, and confidence.
• Manage logistics, including scheduling, feedback collection, and documentation.
• Attend exhibitions and support participants during tours.
• Ensure a safe, engaging, and inclusive experience aligned with gallery values.

Ideal Skills & Experience

• Passion for supporting youth in arts, especially photography.
• Strong organisational, communication and mentoring skills.
• Experience working with diverse youth, including those with additional needs.
• Knowledge of public speaking and familiarity with London schools/youth centres.
• Commitment to youth-centered public engagement and equality.

The Photographers’ Gallery invites applications for a new residency in Derbyshire.

Based at Wigwell Lodge, this two-month residency is for artists working with expanded photography and digital practices. This is an opportunity to research, experiment and expand thinking around photography, technology and innovative approaches to image making and visual culture. 

The residency takes place in the context of photography’s 200th anniversary, and considers a series of potential starting points for further exploration: Mnemosyne Atlas, Voyager Golden Record, In and Out of Space, StarDisk, Seeing Global and Inverted World Labs.

Working in partnership with The Ampersand Foundation, you are encouraged to use the residency as an opportunity to test ideas, explore new methodologies and pursue speculative or research-led projects.

What the residency offers

• Two months’ accommodation and studio space at Wigwell Lodge, Derbyshire
• A £1000 stipend per month
• A £1000 production budget 
• Up to £500 towards travel
• Promotion before and throughout the residency
• Curatorial and administrative support from The Photographers' Gallery throughout the residency with the potential to develop into a project or commission for 2027/2028
• A public presentation or showcase at The Photographers' Gallery or a partner venue at the conclusion of the residency

Artist selection and time frame

This opportunity is open to individual artists over 18 with the legal right to work in the UK.
The artist will be selected by representatives from The Photographers’ Gallery, The Ampersand Foundation, and an invited panel of arts professionals working across photography, media art and digital culture. 

The selected artist will be confirmed in September 2026.
The residency will take place from February to March 2027.
